Carrboro Live!

Time: Thursdays @ 7pm
Program Host: Dave "Doctor Tofu" Bellin
Contact: wcom@davidbellin.com
Show description:
Hosted by Tofu Dave Bellin and produced by Kirby Zeman on engineering and the WCOM Remote Broadcast voluteers, during the summer months we broadcast "live from the lawn" of the Weaver Street Market co-op in downtown Carrboro. Each week features a different band, and we have audio interaction with both audience members, and non-profit groups on site promoting their causes. The first remote broadcast on WCOM was for the dedication of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Chapel Hill during the spring of 2005, featuring Chris Frank and Dave Bellin interviewing at the event. This was followed by two years of broadcasts live from the Shakori Hills music festivals, as well as other events around town.
During the winter months, Dave features local singers and songwriters, as well as an eclectic mix of local weird types, political devotees, and alt-americana music. Regular guests have included NC State Senator Ellie Kinnaird, Chapel Hill and Carrboro town council members, and leaders of movements including the ecological, anarchistic, sexual, and other variously provocative types.
About the host: Dave started out being interviewed, or producing, audio pieces on the social and political implications of computer technology, starting at WBAI Pacifica radio in New York City. With the inception of WNCU-FM in Durham, he did regular short computer help pieces as "Doctor Dave, the Computer Doctor" for the first two years of the station, as well as subbing for years at WXDU-FM Duke University, for Jazz and alt/americana shows. Currently he is WCOM's Senior Political Correspondent and part of the station automation secret collective ("sim-ops").
